Kalamandalam Jisha Sumesh

Kalamandalam Jisha Sumesh is a dedicated Mohiniyattam artiste, teacher, and the visionary founder of Laasya Kala Dance Centre in the UAE. With over 20 years of teaching experience, she has been tirelessly working to preserve and promote Indian classical dance traditions with devotion and authenticity. Trained at the prestigious Kerala Kalamandalam, she embodies the grace, discipline, and depth of classical artistry.

While Mohiniyattam is her foremost pursuit, Jisha also teaches Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, along with Kerala’s traditional dance forms such as Thiruvathira, Kerala Nadanam, and a range of folk dances. Over the years, her classes have nurtured more than 1,000 students worldwide—including school-going children, homemakers, and working professionals from diverse fields—making Laasya Kala a vibrant cultural family that transcends age and background.

Her disciples regularly showcase their talents at prestigious venues such as the Global Village in Dubai, Melpathoor Auditorium in Guruvayoor, and on temple stages including Aattukal Bhagavathy Temple and Mookambika Temple. Recognized for her expertise, Jisha has also been invited to serve as a judge across GCC countries including Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and the UAE.

In 2012, she founded the annual cultural series Laasya Kala Sandhya in the UAE, which has now become a celebrated tradition. By 2025, the festival reached its 13th edition, presenting acclaimed productions such as Maakkavum Makkalum, Kannaki, Krishnapalini and many other thematic presentations blending devotion, storytelling, and artistic excellence.

Continuing her vision of spreading the beauty of classical dance, Jisha is now opening a new branch of Laasya Kala in Kasaragod, Kerala, taking her journey back to her roots while keeping her global connections alive.

For Jisha, dance is not just performance—it is prayer, discipline, and a lifelong offering. Through Laasya Kala, she continues to inspire generations to embrace Indian classical traditions with pride, while discovering their own rhythm within them.
